The flavour of rehearsals
Our rehearsals are held Tuesday evenings from September through June at St.
Leonard's Anglican Church (two blocks north of the Lawrence subway
station, just steps east of Yonge Street).
Rehearsals take place in the church auditorium with Sherry Squires accompanying
us on piano. Rehearsals begin promptly
with vocal warm-up exercises. We read music and work in a focused
manner from 7:30 p.m. to 9:45, with a 10-minute break for snacks and
chatting. We perform with our sheet music, so no one is expected to memorize
the material. However some vocal coaching, homework, and occasional weekend
sectional rehearsals before concerts are involved. But it's not all
work; we also like to relax and have fun after Tuesday rehearsals at a
nearby pub.
For songs in a foreign language, recorded pronunciation files are available for download,
so we can listen to native speakers slowly reciting the words we're trying
to learn. Native speakers in our audiences have often complimented us on the
authenticity of our renditions.
